Theodore Kuchar. Antonio Pompa-Baldi

This evening brings together renowned names and world-class talent in both composition and performance. One of the most distinguished conductors, Theodore Kuchar, who has played a key role in bringing Ukrainian symphonic music to the international stage, serves as Chief Conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Maestro Kuchar is joined by Antonio Pompa-Baldi, the Italian American virtuoso pianist and laureate of major international competitions. Praised by The New York Times for his “meltingly beautiful” playing, Pompa-Baldi is celebrated for his technically impeccable and intellectually refined artistry.

The program is dedicated to Scandinavian symphonic music of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Sibelius offers epic drama, Grieg contributes a passionate and lyrical narrative, and Nielsen presents an expansive, life-affirming musical canvas.

Program:

Jean Sibelius: Symphonic Poem Pohjola’s Daughter, Op. 49

Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16

Carl Nielsen: Symphony No. 3 Sinfonia Espansiva, Op. 27
