Music is a universal language. Every score and every instrument has its own vibrant, unique voice. The concert program «LE VOCI» («Voices») brings together musical pieces that reveal the generosity of human emotions: from personal reflection and profound philosophical silence to elated, radiant joy.
The evening will open with Richard Wagner’s «Siegfried-Idyll» – a piece he composed as a gift for his family. It is one of the few purely instrumental works to have achieved worldwide fame, thanks to its refined lyricism, transparent texture, and profound personal undertones.
Next on the program is a contemporary Italian piece – «Il canto del silenzio» («The Song of Silence») by Simonide Braconi. Composed during the pandemic, the piece seeks to capture the distinctive silence – at times unsettling, at times meditative – that suddenly enveloped the world during lockdown.
Max Bruch’s Romance for Viola and Orchestra adds a special warmth to the program. This heartfelt, melodious composition clearly reveals the viola’s velvet tone. Like Song of «Silence», Romance centers entirely on the solo viola, showcasing its ability to ‘sing’ and express the most subtle emotional experiences and reflections of the human soul.
The second half of the concert will feature Yevhen Stankovych’s profound and contemplative Chamber Symphony No.2 «Meditation» – a profound, contemplative work by the outstanding Ukrainian composer, imbued with inner tension and contemplation. Composed in 1980, it became a manifesto of the new Ukrainian symphonism, exploring the fluidity of time and the infinity of human consciousness through the complex polyphony of its sound layers.
And when the philosophical musings quieten down, the sound of Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 «Haffner» will ring out like pure light, reminding us that after any silence or trials, there always comes a time for joy, harmony and renewal.
