Roman Rewakowicz has spent years building a cultural bridge between Ukraine and Poland through music. An acclaimed conductor and passionate advocate of musical exchange, he brings Ukrainian music to audiences in Poland and introduces the richness of Polish classical music to Ukrainian listeners.
In this concert, Maestro Rewakowicz will lead the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine in a programme featuring three works that trace the development of Polish symphonic music from the nineteenth to the early twentieth century.
The first half of the concert brings together two distinctive visions of Polish musical identity. Władysław Żeleński’s overture In the Tatras captures the colours and atmosphere of the mountains in a vivid and unexpected orchestral setting. This is followed by Mieczysław Karłowicz’s symphonic poem Eternal Songs, a deeply reflective triptych that draws on the spirit of late Romanticism, with rich orchestral textures and an intense emotional depth.
The second half features Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, an early masterpiece that combines dazzling virtuosity with moments of tenderness and poetic expression. The soloist is Piotr Pawlak, one of Poland’s leading young pianists, recognised for his success at international competitions and his compelling interpretations of Chopin’s music.
