WLive: The Light of MYTH brings together memory and the future, the legacy of an extraordinary artist, and the young voices shaping a new generation of Ukrainian musical culture.
At the heart of the evening is Wassyl Slipak – an exceptional singer, a person of extraordinary talent and spirit, and a man who loved Ukraine deeply.
The project takes its name from “MYTH,” Wassyl Slipak’s iconic stage name. The Light of MYTH also speaks to the inner fire he left behind – a flame of creativity, freedom, human dignity, and unwavering devotion to his calling.
The evening will also present the upcoming edition of the Wassyl Slipak Young Vocalists Competition, scheduled to take place in 2027. Created in honour of the artist, the Competition has become a platform where talent meets opportunity – providing young singers with professional support, recognition, and inspiration as they develop their artistic careers.
A special focus of the evening will be the participation of laureates from different editions of the Competition. Young singers for whom the Competition marked an important step in their professional journey will return to the stage as accomplished artists. Their presence is a powerful testament to the lasting impact of an initiative dedicated to nurturing young talent and carrying Wassyl Slipak’s artistic vision into the future.
Marking the 10th anniversary of Wassyl Slipak’s death, WLive: The Light of MYTH is more than a tribute to an outstanding artist. It is a celebration of a legacy that continues to resonate – through the voices of young performers, the development of Ukraine’s vocal tradition, and the cultural life of a country that Wassyl Slipak served and shaped through both his artistry and his life.
